It started like any other Saturday.
I was up early, and had two cups of tea in the craft room while I worked through my daily art journal page and worked on my One Little Word album.
Around 7:30, I went back to the bedroom and woke up Shane. He hates when I wake him early on the weekends, but the day gets so much more fun once he's awake, so most weekends, I wake him early than he'd like. I like his company - so sue me!
We were planning to go for breakfast, so after a quick deliberation (I suggested a waffle place in Fremantle because he likes waffles but he insisted on my favourite brekky restaurant on the beach) we threw on clothes and headed out the door.
I had the Eggs on Fire (as usual), and he had the Big Breakfast (as usual). We shared a pot of tea (as usual). The restaurant was filled with the usual mix of cyclists and young couples, many with kids. We joked about how we've hit the perfect age - old enough to be able to afford overly-priced breakfasts, but young enough to not worry about spending the money without kids or a mortgage to make us think twice.
I wolfed down my breakfast, and was stuffed to the point of queasy, so when Shane suggested a walk on the beach, I wasn't super keen on the idea. In addition to my stuffed gut, I was wearing socks and boots, so the thought of getting to bare feet in my stuffed state was exhausting. He was adamant though, so off went the boots and we headed down to the beach.
We walked about 10 minutes down the beach, and then I turned to give him a big hug before the walk back. I noticed his heart was pounding, and realised what was about to happen....
He asked me to marry him, and of course I said YES!
The ring is beyond-words perfect. It's an antique from the 1940s. It's dainty and sparkles brilliantly and couldn't be more perfect for me if he'd designed it from scratch. He picked it without input from anyone and absolutely blew me away!
We sat on the beach enjoying the moment, until he told me I could get the ring resized that day (it was 4 sizes too big!), at which point I basically sprinted to the car in excitement. We went straight to get it resized.
The rest of the day was a blur of phone calls and Skype calls to family and friends all over the world. We had a sunset picnic at the foreshore, and after stuffing ourselves with food and bubbles, were sound asleep by 9 pm.
We are beyond delighted and although our future together was never in doubt, we're enjoying the new fiance(e) label and basking in the just-engaged glow!
Congratulations! How exciting for you both! What a beautiful petite ring as well. Love that he proposed doing something so usual and "you"

I'm so excited for yall and I love that ring! Also, you really are at the best age money-wise; I wish I had enjoyed that phase more and been smarter financially before I bought a house & had kids!
